Inservice Teacher Education
     The Hewit Institute sponsors inservice workshops and summer institutes for teachers. Recent offerings have included workshops for geography teachers on the grasslands of the world and summer institutes on using the Internet as a teaching tool.
Preservice Teacher Education
     The Hewit Institute faculty are involved in preservice teacher education at UNC. The Institute is affiliated with the Social Science Program, which is one of the University largest undergraduate majors. Most of these majors are enrolled in the Professional Teacher Education. Institute faculty teach courses through the departments of economics, geography, history, and political science as well as the secondary social studies methods course and a capstone course for social science majors.
