Lessons and activities for the comparative study of three grassland regions of the world developed for the elementary classroom. The regions include the North American Great Plains, the Eurasian Steppe, and the African Savanna. These materials were developed by elementary teachers who participated in curriculum-development workshops funded by the Colorado Geography Education Fund and the National Geographic Society Education Foundation. Lessons for four units are included in a three-ring binder. Cost of binder: $20.00.
Doing History/Keeping the Past
  • Doing History DC-ROM Disks (available in both Mac and PC versions). The disks include historical photographs, textual primary sources, and narrative relating to several topics in Colorado history and to historic preservation. The topics now include Colorado Indians, mining, farming and ranching, Colorado cities, and Colorado in the 20th century. Each of these topics includes photos and primary sources relating to the themes of food, clothing, and shelter; families and children; work and tools; cities and towns; community life; and transportation. The cost of each CD-ROM is $10.00.
  • In addition, the project has worked with several teams of elementary and middle grades teachers to develop activities in which the students use the materials. These teachers have also field-tested these activities with their own students. The cost of each of these teacher's notebooks is $20.00, which includes a CD-ROM.
  • Use the order form to order the above materials.
