Mountain Men and the Fur Trade

The primary purpose this web site is to provide a virtual research center for Western Fur Trade History. The emphasis is on the Mountain Men in the United States Rocky Mountain region in the period from 1800-50. The first priority is to provide an e-text collection of the most important historical source materials. Good collection of primary sources.  http://www.xmission.com/~drudy/amm.html

New Perspectives on the West

This site was created to expand upon the Public Broadcasting television series by Ken Burns and Steven Ives. The site contains a wealth of material including a chronology of western history, archival resources pertaining to each of the series' espisodes, and additional Internet links. http://www.pbs.org/weta/thewest/intro.htm

Southwest Frontier and the Fur Trade

This site was created by an organization called the American Mountain Men. It appears they are enthusiasts concerning this subject. From what we could tell, there are some valuable resources contained on this site. http://klesinger.com/jbp/swf1.html

Union Pacific Railroad History

This is part of the official web site of the railroad. Even so, it contains some interesting historical materials including narrative, photos, and historical maps. http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/history/

West Web (College of Staten Island, SUNY)

This site contains a wealth of information about US western history. One interesting feature of the site is Lavender's overviews of her favorite sites (which changes from time to time). All in all, this is an extraordinary web site. http://www.library.csi.cuny.edu/westweb/
