Suggestions to Teachers

The following is a list of the student materials, organized by questions about the five major focus topics. To the right are links for you to preview the materials. You may wish to print and copy them in advance rather than having your students print them during an activity. We have made the materials available in two formats--a MicroSoft Word file and an Adobe Acrobat pdf file. Your Internet browser should support the latter, but if not, download Acrobat from the Adobe web site.

The following two handouts are designed to help your students bring closure to their study of the Ancestral Puebloans.

If your content focus is change over time, this three column chart will help your students compare and contrast the material cultures of the earliest southwestern Indians, the basketmakers, and the Puebloans. Cultural Universals Data Retrieval Chart (Word)

The materials are arranged such that a jigsaw activity would be a good instructional strategy to use. You could organize "expert" groups to investigate one of the five topics. Then re-arrange them in synthesis groups to fill in this five column chart and try to make generalizations about what they have learned. Jigsaw Data Retrieval Chart (Word)
